Dining
Dining in Spokane runs the gamut from tiny bistros to resort restaurants. Most ethnic cuisine can be found, including Mexican, Italian, Chinese, Greek, and Pan-Asian. Spokane’s popular downtown area has a wide variety of restaurants to explore. For a fun family atmosphere check out Cyrus O’Leary’s in the heart of downtown. The place is jammed with antiques and sculptures, the waiters dress in costume and there is a tiny train running the length of the restaurant. There are over 100 items on the menu and hundreds of specialty drinks. O’Leary’s is renowned for its lemon meringue pie.
An Old World experience awaits at Catacombs. The restaurant is built in what was once the boiler room of the city’s oldest standing hotel, the Montvale Hotel, and is reminiscent of Europe’s old public houses. A fireplace and Central European dishes like Hungarian Goulash complete the scene. A block from the Davenport Hotel is Niko’s, serving Mediterranean dishes for twenty years. Niko’s offers both traditional Greek fare from family recipes and new Med cuisine.
Rated one of Spokane’s best restaurants, Mizuna has a changing seasonal menu using the best of local organics. The restaurant is set in a lovely downtown building and has a comfortable atmosphere. The menu is eclectic, with a priority on fresh and healthy choices. Local cheese and produce are a staple and the staff is knowledgeable. In the spring and summer there is patio seating and live music. If you crave soup on a chilly northwestern day, stop by Soulful Soups and grab a bowl of steaming, homemade soup served with fresh bread or croissant. Salad/soup combos are available. The cozy restaurant offers Internet access.
The Steam Plant Grill is a historic landmark and popular choice among locals. The grill and bar makes Coeur d’Alene beer on site and has happy hours and sports television in the lounge. The menu includes an interesting variety of dishes like the Strawberry Almond salad and the Coal Bunker Burrito, two of many vegetarian options. The Peacock Room, located in the Davenport Hotel downtown claims to be Spokane's best place to have a drink.
